Denim is the absolute wardrobe essential – casual weekends, brunch with the girls or a quirky take on tailoring, denim can do it all.
But sometimes styling it up can seem like a bit of a tough challenge. And when you’ve spend ages hunting for the perfect pair of jeans (we know the pain!) spending half a lifetime figuring out how to style them can be a major drag.
So – we’ve decided to do all the hard work for you! Inspired by the always gorgeous Zahra Lyla rocking her double denim look – we’ve put our fashion hats on, to come up with some essential tips to make sure your denim looks super stylish.
Go slick and sleek
Can denim ever be more than just a casual wardrobe piece?
Take a look at Miranda Kerr rocking her jeans here – the answer is, yes. Definitely!
The key to this gorgeous look is combining two really sleek staples with a great fitting pair of jeans. Gleaming leather boots and a slim button down? Nice.
You could also swap the black blouse for a white or ivory one, for a fresh, daytime twist on the look.
Bright white perfection
Stonewashed blue or indigo might be the colours that come to mind when you think of denim, but in fact there’s a huge rainbow to choose from now.
We still like to keep things classy though, so we’ll pass on the candy-coloured skinny jeans, and go for crisp, bright white instead.
White denim looks incredible sharp and clean – and provides the perfect foundation to offset bright coloured tops, or to work a cool, monochrome look. Go for a softly distressed look and pair with grungy ankle boots, for a modern but relaxed look.
Add a dose of structure
One quick and easy way to bring your denim look to the top of the class is by adding some seriously sharp structure to your outfit.
We love the tailored blazer plus heels combo – it totally transforms a pair of jeans into a look that is perfect for everything, from gallery hopping to a stylish brunch date.
Go minimalistic, with a black or dark grey blazer, but we recommend including a dash of colour somewhere to keep the look fresh and modern. How about a pair of neon heels with a matching manicure, to make your outfit pop?
Offset a vibrant print
The great thing about denim is the classic, timeless, clean neutrality of it. A skinny pair of dark indigo jeans is never going to go out of style any time soon, and hardly needs much else to dress them up.
But what if you like to splash out with a bit more personality? Take your cue from Lyla Loves Fashion – this quirky and innovative layering look combines a cool, modern print dress from MSGM with slim, dark jeans and heels.
So much more slick and impressive than your usual leggings and tunic combo, right?
