Nail Art – a Prevailing Culture

Who would have thought that nail art would surpass lipstick in the fashion world? From the runways to high street, nail art has emerged as a democratic form of self-expression in which anyone can participate. It’s a way to feel stylish and a way to make a statement.

It’s no longer just about bold solid colors or eye-catching metallics. You don’t need fake nails or tips to enjoy the trend. Various arts can be painted on your natural nails.

Inspired by celebrities and blogs, more women are embracing all manners of experimentation: intricate floral patterns and cartoon characters, glittery mosaics, 3-D motifs emblazoned with lace, gems, charms, foils, even magnets.

“Nailed” by Chicago-based artist Dzine, traces the history of nail art to China’s Ming Dynasty, where members of the upper class kept long nails as status symbols that implied they were not supposed to touch anything.

“It’s really about identity and making a unique statement,” said Dzine, whose real name is Carlos Rolon. “I don’t see it as any different from someone who wants to make a custom car to their liking. These people create something to make them stand apart from the crowd.”

At The Nail Spa, our therapists create nail art designs and seek inspiration from the current runway and street style trends. Bloggers even come to us to have funky designs on their nails. Nail art is a noteworthy trend and should be tried by everyone.

Would you embrace nail art as a form of self expression?
